ChatGPT to Notion (2026)
Your research lives in ChatGPT; your team's knowledge lives in Notion. The clean bridge between them is Markdown — no integration setup, no API tokens, no third-party app touching your workspace.
Updated August 2026 · works with ChatGPT (chatgpt.com), Claude (claude.ai), and Gemini (gemini.google.com).
Why Markdown is the right bridge
Notion reads Markdown natively — it can import Markdown files, and Markdown structure maps onto Notion blocks: headings become headings, lists become lists, fenced code becomes code blocks. So the job splits cleanly in two: get the conversation out of ChatGPT as good Markdown, then let Notion do what it already does well. Copy-pasting from the ChatGPT page directly skips that structure and tends to arrive as a wall of text.
The flow, start to finish
- Install the free extension. AI Chat Exporter works on chatgpt.com (and claude.ai, gemini.google.com). Conversation content is processed locally and not uploaded by the extension.
- Open the conversation and click the icon — save it as a .md file (or copy the Markdown to your clipboard).
- In Notion: use Import → Text & Markdown and pick the .md file — it becomes a page with proper blocks. Pasting copied Markdown into a page can also work, but raw pasted Markdown may need cleanup — the .md import is the reliable route.
Why not a direct "ChatGPT to Notion" integration?
Tools that write straight into Notion need workspace access — an integration token or an app connected to your account. That's a real trade: you're connecting a third party to the pages you authorize just to save one paste. The Markdown route keeps a file in your hands in between, and leaves nothing connected when you're done. If you move conversations constantly and want zero steps, an integration may suit you; for everyone else, the file is the simpler, safer default.
Patterns that work well
- Research dumps — one Notion page per conversation, imported as .md, tagged in a database.
- Decision records — export the conversation that led to a decision and attach it to the project page.
- Prompt library — keep conversations that produced great output; the fenced code blocks survive intact.
The same flow works for an Obsidian vault — see ChatGPT to Obsidian — and in reverse for feeding a conversation to another model as context.

How do I save a ChatGPT conversation to Notion?
Export it as a Markdown file, then Import → Text & Markdown in Notion. Core structure arrives as proper blocks.
Do I need a Notion integration or API setup?
Not for this route. A file needs no token, no connected app, no workspace permissions.
Will code blocks survive?
Yes — headings, lists, and fenced code blocks map to Notion blocks on import.
Does this work for Claude and Gemini too?
Yes — same extension, same Markdown, same import.
